[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 7 tintypes of African American subjects, incl. caretaker with white child.


4 3/4 x 3 1/8 in. tintype portrait of a young Black woman seated on a bench in a studio beside a white, toddler-aged child. They pose before a painted backdrop depicting a seascape (some creasing throughout plate, scattered surface abrasions).

[With:] 4 tintypes, approx. 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 in. or smaller, featuring studio portraits of African American subjects, including 3 young women and one young man (overall good to very good, some with light creasing, some surface wear).

[Also with:] 4 3/4 x 3 1/4 in. tintype portrait of an African American couple, possibly a husband and wife (creasing, surface wear to plate, few holes near top margin). -- 4 x 5 3/8 in. outdoor tintype of a group of people, including white and Black or mixed-race subjects (creasing, surface abrasions).
